Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry is a prestigious postgraduate and research department of the college, which is established in the year 1978. The department offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs in chemistry. Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) programs follow a choice-based credit and semester system. The department currently has nine permanent faculty members. Seven of the faculties are approved research guides under the University of Kerala. In the undergraduate program, the department offers complementary courses for botany, zoology, physics, and biochemistry majors. A paper on Environmental Chemistry is offered as an open course for students from other majors who are interested in learning chemistry. Certificate courses are offered for skill development and to enhance employability. The department is supported by funding from various international, national, and state agencies like RSC, UGC, DST, DBT, KSCSTE, and KSHEC. Laboratory facilities are provided for UG, PG and research students. The infrastructure facilities of the department are expanded using DST-FIST funding and the department houses UV-Vis. spectrophotometers, FT-IR spectrometer, Rotary evaporator, Microwave and Muffle Furnaces, Humidity Oven, etc to name a few. The centralized research facility is open to scholars of the parent institution and other institutions.
