Women’s Studies Unit

Women’s Studies Unit of TKM College of Arts and Science was setup as a result of University of Kerala, Centre for Women’s Studies response to address Women’s concern in Higher Education. Since then, Women’s Studies Unit has taken initiative for the development of the women community in the college by conducting various programmes and activities to equip them with socially useful and productive skills. The centre seeks to enhance the general visibility of women and ponder of gender issues within the academic and local communities through Extension Works, Campus Film Festival on Women and by initiating numerous programmes that delve on the issues faced by women to expedite awareness-building. Gender Sensitization Programmes and Awareness Sessions for students, teachers, parents and community are also in focus to create a platform for sensitizing the public.

Objectives

• To equip the students with a socially useful and productive skill.
• To include workshops, seminars, debates discussions, film shows and exhibitions that display the creative acumen of the students.
• To conduct need-based gender sensitization programmes
• To create awareness among the students on women’s rights status and to critically analyse women’s issues.
