Phytochemical and Bioactivity Screening

1. Antioxidant Activity by FRAP Assay – ₹300 per sample

The Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) assay is used to evaluate the antioxidant capacity of phytochemicals and food samples. This method measures the ability of antioxidants present in the sample to reduce ferric ions (Fe³⁺) to ferrous ions (Fe²⁺), producing a colored complex that is quantified spectrophotometrically. The results provide an estimate of the total reducing power of the sample and are expressed as antioxidant equivalents.

2. Qualitative Analysis of Phytochemicals – ₹450 per sample

Qualitative phytochemical screening is performed to detect the presence of major classes of bioactive compounds in plant extracts or food materials. The analysis typically includes tests for phenolics, flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, and phytosterols using standard colorimetric and precipitation reactions. The results provide a preliminary profile of phytochemical constituents present in the sample.

3. Quantitative Estimation of Phytochemicals

This analysis determines the concentration of major phytochemical compounds in plant or food extracts using spectrophotometric methods.

Parameter

Total Phenolic Content

₹250 per sample

Total Flavonoid Content

₹250 per sample

Tannin Content

₹250 per sample

The results are expressed in terms of standard equivalents (e.g., gallic acid equivalents or quercetin equivalents) and provide quantitative insight into the phytochemical composition of the sample.

4. Enzyme Inhibition Assays / Screening for Enzyme Inhibitors

Enzyme inhibition assays are conducted to evaluate the ability of phytochemicals, natural extracts, or synthetic compounds to inhibit specific enzyme activities. These assays are commonly used in drug discovery, nutraceutical research, and biochemical screening studies. The methodology and charges will vary depending on the target enzyme and experimental requirements.

Charges: Based on the type of enzyme and analytical complexity.

Application for Analysis

Applicants are requested to consult the faculty in charge to schedule an appropriate time slot for the analysis. The Application Form for Analysis should be downloaded and completed with all required details. The duly filled application form must be submitted to the Department of Biochemistry along with proof of fee payment, after remitting the prescribed fees at the College Office.

Procedure:

  1. Consult the faculty in charge to confirm the available time slot for the analysis.
  2. Download the Application Form for Analysis.
  3. Complete the form with the required information.
  4. Remit the prescribed fee at the College Office.
  5. Submit the completed application form along with the payment receipt to the Department of Biochemistry.
Results will be given in the Word/pdf format
