Grand Opening to Golden Jubilee Celebrations

The inaugural ceremony of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of T.K.M. College of Arts and Science was flagged off on 21 Nov 2015 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri Oommen Chandy. It was presided over by the Hon’ble Chairman of T.K.M.College Trust, Janab. Shahal Hassan Musaliar.

The prayer song was rendered by three choristers, who represent the college, Devika Dileep, Arsha Raj and Gouri B.

The function began with a welcome speech by the Principal of the college, Prof. Hashimudeen A., who presented a brief report on the history of the institution and identified the landmarks in its evolution. He acknowledged the contribution of generations of teachers and charted the future scenario of the institution and welcomed the gathering.

In an electrifying oration, Janab. Shahal Hassan Musaliar declared that nothing is impossible to the youth of India provided they believe in themselves. He pointed out the role of education in moulding the future of the nation and added that the greatest resource is the human resource. He also urged the students to realise the significance of discipline and systematic hard work in creating success. He concluded by quoting Swami Vivekananda, “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached”.

In his inaugural address, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri Oommen Chandy paid rich tributes to the generosity, vision, values, kind-heartedness and philanthropy of the founder of the institution, Janb. Thangal Kunju Musaliar. He observed that Janab. Thangal Kunju Musaliar, the founder of the first Engineering College in the private sector of Kerala, and that he was determined to bring Engineering education within the grasp of the poor and the deprived, at a time when an Engineering college was an unthinkable dream. He declared that Kerala has to walk in the footsteps of the great man.

The Chief Minister further observed that Kerala has achieved much in general education, but there appears to be a lacuna in the sphere of higher education. The students of Kerala are seen going to other states and countries for higher education. He stated that this situation should change and that Kerala has to become the higher education capital of the nation.

The Chief Minister also honoured Janab. Shahal Hassan Musaliar by wrapping him in a Ponnada and by handing over the memento to him. Shri Oommen Chandy also laid the foundation stone of the proposed Golden Jubilee Research Block. Janab. Shahal Hassan Musaliar honoured Shri Oommen Chandy by handing over the memento to him.

The new college website was switched on in the function by the Hon’ble Member of Parliament Shri N.K. Premachandran who also delivered a stirring speech.

Words of felicitations were delivered by Hon’ble Members of Legislative Assembly, Shri N.K. Baby and Shri A.A. Azeez.

The others who delivered felicitations include Ms. P. Vinithakumari, President, Kottankara Grama Panchayat; Dr. Ayoob S., Principal, T.K.M. Engineering College; Ms. Latha Alexander, Principal, T.K.M. Centenary Public School and Dr. Abdul E. Razac, Former Principal, T.K.M. College of Arts and Science.

The inaugural function came to a glorious conclusion with a vote of thanks by Hon’ble Treasurer of T.K.M College Trust, Janab. Jalaluddin Musaliar. In his speech, he explained the motivation behind the founding of educational institutions by Janab. Thangal Kunju Musaliar. He urged the members of the Arts College family to live up to the dreams of the founder. He thanked each and everyone for their contribution towards making the function a grand success.

The function was a spectacular success with its huge attendance from the dignitaries, parents, students and the public. The function came to a close with the National Anthem rendered by the orchestra led by Jose Pappaiah, who also mesmerized the audience for nearly an hour before the commencement of the function.
